Senior Technology Manager

Montana State University is hiring a Senior Technology Manager. This role reports to the Director of the Technology Transfer Office and autonomously assists MSU researchers in identifying, protecting, and licensing intellectual property to industry, supporting the office's mission of translating research into practical applications to maximize societal impact.

• Identify and evaluate technologies for commercial and licensing potential, coordinating with IP management for patent filing.
• Perform market research and develop marketing materials to promote licensing opportunities.
• Engage industry customers through outreach efforts and support MSU startups in market and commercialization strategies.
• Draft, negotiate, and manage licensing and research collaboration agreements.
• Maintain effective communication with university staff and external sponsors to ensure timely contract completion.
• Update and manage data in the Technology Transfer Office database.
• Required qualifications include a Master's degree in engineering, physics, or related field, five years of experience in a technology-driven company, and strong knowledge of intellectual property and technology commercialization processes.
• Preferred qualifications include a PhD, ten years of industry experience, startup expertise, contract negotiation skills, knowledge of the Bayh-Dole Act, and familiarity with software and emerging technologies.
• The position offers a salary range of $105,000 to $125,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
• The role involves close collaboration with MSU faculty, staff, and Montana businesses to promote economic development and research translation.
