Montana State University is hiring an Independent Verification & Validation (IV&V) Subject Matter Expert. This role leads independent testing and evaluation activities for diverse technologies within the Defense Innovation OnRamp Hub:
Montana, designing and executing IV&V plans aligned with defense mission requirements and regulatory frameworks, and providing clear assessments to stakeholders on technology readiness for defense transition.
- Lead independent verification and validation (IV&V) and test activities across domains such as autonomy, aviation, space, communications, and materials.
- Translate defense mission requirements into measurable test criteria in collaboration with Department of War (DoW) mission partners and program leads.
- Assess regulatory readiness under Federal Communication Commission (FCC) spectrum and licensing rules and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) airspace and flight-test requirements.
- Provide independent, evidence-based IV&V reports and readiness assessments to Hub leadership, Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), and DoW mission partners.
- Advise companies on defense mission and regulatory requirements to facilitate technology transition.
- Coordinate with Montana State University research programs and regional test ranges for test infrastructure access.
- Remain current on evolving DoW acquisition policies and FCC/FAA regulatory changes affecting dual-use technologies.
- Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in STEM fields, at least 7 years of IV&V or test and evaluation experience supporting defense missions, and working knowledge of FCC and FAA requirements.
- Preferred qualifications include a master's degree, active DoW Secret clearance, relevant professional certifications, and experience with autonomous and aviation systems IV&V.
- Must be eligible to obtain DoW Secret clearance and able to work onsite in Bozeman, Montana, with occasional travel and compliance with federal export controls.
