This position may be eligible for a statutory base pay increase of $1.00 an hour effective July 1, 2026.
Employees exceeding 1,040 hours in a calendar year receive health, dental and life insurance. Other benefits include retirement, paid vacation, sick and holidays. Possibly covered by a VEBA (Voluntary Employee Beneficiary Association).

Specific Job InformationThe position serves two high‑use parks:
Missouri Headwaters and Madison Buffalo Jump. Must work outdoors on uneven mountain forest terrain, adverse weather, irregular hours. No immediate supervision t be physically fit, a team player, flexible and responsive. Positions begin early May, continue through September to cover Memorial Day to Labor Day. Based near Seeley Lake, Montana.
Minor routine maintenance: preparing surfaces for painting/staining, changing bulbs, cleaning gutters/downspouts. Use of hand tools, wood scrapers, wire brushes, sanders, paintbrushes, primers, paint, cleanup chemicals, step ladders.
- Assist in maintaining FWP grounds: fire rings, campsites, mowing, weed cutting, hand‑pulling weeds, irrigation, raking, shoveling, fertilizing, planting, pruning, leaf blowing.
- Answer visitor questions, provide area info, follow procedures, contact authorities on emergencies.
- Collect violations or accidents data, document with standard forms, coordinate with local 911/EMS, law enforcement, wardens, supervisors.
- Maintain records of duties, equipment and supply needs, time worked; submit to work unit office.
- Participate in training:
Standard First Aid, CPR, safety meetings. - Ensure proper PPE use.
- Collect fees and educate visitors where applicable.
- Sanitize restrooms, latrines, picnic tables, barbecue grills, replace paper products.
- Clean other FWP facilities: sidewalks, boat docks, picnic shelters, storage structures, bulletin boards, interpretive displays, signs.
- Inspect and report hazards, maintenance or repair needs.
- Minor repairs: unclog drains, install toilet seats, lock facilities, redirect public use.
- Collect trash from facilities and transfer to offsite bins.
- Daily travel on back roads/poor road conditions.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities normally attained through experience in ground maintenance trades with an emphasis on natural and recreational resources. Basic computer skills:
Microsoft Office, Excel. Regional site‑specific tasks may exist; other duties may be assigned.
High school diploma or equivalency. Other combinations will be considered case‑by‑case.
Salary$21.11 hourly
