Bridge Equipment Operator

Under general supervision of the Bridge Foreman, this position is responsible for operating specialized heavy equipment and tools to maintain, repair, and construct County bridge site features. The position also provides operational support to the Road, Bridge, and Junk Vehicle Department and performs a variety of other duties as assigned. The position reports to the Bridge Foreman and does not supervise other personnel.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities include maintaining, repairing, and constructing County bridge site features using a variety of specialized heavy equipment, tools, and manual labor support. The position is also responsible for monitoring safety of project sites and work activities and inspecting and maintaining/repairing bridge sites within a designated area.

Qualifications for this position typically include a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma plus three (3) years of related experience in heavy equipment operations, road/bridge construction, or related trade/technical field. This position is safety sensitive in nature and is designated as a "testable position". The position is subject to pre-employment testing, upon reasonable suspicion, on a random basis, return to duty and any follow-up testing under the policy.

Education & Experience for this position requires knowledge and skills in specialized heavy equipment and tool operations, bridge site maintenance and construction standards and procedures, material specifications, and basic mechanical diagnosis and repair. The position also requires the ability to monitor and maintain safety protocols, work effectively under adverse site conditions, and coordinate tasks and procedures with others. Equipment operators are required to complete the following training/accreditations within six months of hire:
Flagger Certification, First Aid/CPR, MSHA-46 (Miner) Certification, Wildland Fire Training, Work Zone Safety Training. The Position also requires a Class A CDL, Type 1 driver's license with air brake and Tanker endorsement (or the ability to attain one within 6 months of hire).
