Looking for summer employment? Join the City of Bozeman’s as a short-term worker in our Solid Waste Division and keep our city clean and beautiful through waste management. This position is great for those who are environmentally conscious and want to learn about sustainable solid waste collection and disposal of trash, recycling, and compost. Assist in curbside recycling, delivery and pick-up of bins, including but not limited to receptacle upkeep and maintenance, bear resistant container collection, bulky item pick-up, delivery and removal of temporary dumpsters, and delivery and pick-up for special events.

Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Non-Exempt
Work Week: Monday - Friday 7:00am – 3:30pm with a 30-minute lunch break. Full-time, 40 hours/week.
Length of Season: Ideally early to mid-May - end of August, 2026.
Assignment Details: Not to exceed 90 working days or 520 hours, whichever comes first.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Observes safe work methods and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment as required.
- Assists in curbside delivery and pick up of bins, as well as receptacle upkeep and maintenance, including bulky item pick-up, delivery and removal of temporary dumpsters, and delivery and pick-up for special events.
- Utilizes City vehicles to transport equipment and debris to City disposal facilities.
- Performs routine and preventative maintenance of solid waste and recycling facilities, including cleaning and maintaining buildings and grounds.
- Operates a variety of hand and power tools and equipment related to work assignments as instructed.
- Responds to citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.
- Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities.
- Performs other directly related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED by employment start date.
- Must be of legal age to perform the duties of the position (at least 18 years old).
- Must possess a valid Class D driver’s license.
- Offers for employment are conditional upon satisfactory completion of the conditional offer process including, but not limited to a driving record history check, criminal background check, thorough reference checks, and a general internet search.

- Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language.
