General Information

Work Locations: GT Bray, 5502 33rd Avenue Drive West, Bradenton, Florida 34209;
John Marble, 3675 53rd Avenue Drive East, Bradenton, Florida 34203.

Work Hours:

Monday - Friday 7:30 am – 6:00 pm, hours will vary.

Expected Starting Hourly Range: $17.00 – $19.00.

Work Schedule:

Mid‑May through August, 40 hours per week. Camp hours Monday‑Friday 7:30 am – 6:00 pm.

Working Conditions:

Indoor and outdoor environments with high noise levels. Requires standing for extended periods, frequent bending, stooping, climbing, crawling, fine manipulations, reaching, and repetitive lifting up to 50 lb alone and up to 100 lb with assistance.

Job Description

Responsible for the safety and well‑being of children ages 5 and up in a structured seasonal day camp program. Serves as unit lead by providing instruction and programming for one of the following content areas: physical education, reading, or arts and crafts. Supervises and instructs a group of children, including activity set‑up and clean‑up, and contributes to fostering positive interactions with participants.

  • Reading Program Lead: Leads the camp reading program, selecting age‑appropriate material and creating associated activities. Writes blog posts summarizing weekly accomplishments and records camper progress.
  • Physical Education Lead: Creates daily activity schedules for age‑appropriate outdoor and indoor recreational activities. May collaborate with the Reading Program Lead on integrated activities.
  • Arts & Crafts Lead: Creates daily arts and crafts schedules within budget constraints and may collaborate with the Reading Program Lead on related projects.
  • All Program Leads – Plan and implement a weekly schedule for the designated area.
  • Instruct and supervise children in recreational activities with assistance from Camp Counselors.
  • Maintain and inventory all equipment needed for the program area; ensure required materials are on hand.
  • Setup and cleanup play areas and facilities; maintain cleanliness and organization.
  • Maintain accurate program records including incident and behavior reports and daily attendance.
  • Ensure safety and supervision of participants; respond calmly to emergencies.
  • Act as an effective group leader and positive role model.
  • Perform additional duties as requested (e.g., during extreme weather conditions).
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent and at least 18 years of age at the time of the summer camp start date.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with youth as a teacher or two summers of camp experience with youth.
  • Community CPR and First Aid certifications required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Prioritize tasks and manage competing priorities under changing conditions.
  • Detail‑oriented, organized, and capable of interpreting situations that require problem resolution.
  • Knowledge of recreational activities suitable for children, youth, and individuals with special needs.
  • Knowledge of facilities and equipment required for a comprehensive recreation program.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations governing various recreation games.
  • Understanding of hazards and safety precautions necessary for protecting the public and employees.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills for interaction with staff, children, parents, and stakeholders, even under stress.
  • Work performed under moderate supervision.
