Program Overview
This 11‑month, 1,230‑hour hybrid program at MTC East Campus trains students to become certified Dental Assistants. 100% of graduates are placed in dental practices within the community. Upon completion students receive Florida Expanded Functions and Florida Dental Radiographer certificates and are eligible to sit for the Dental Assisting National Board Certification exam.
Key Program Features- Full‑time academic coursework: 90 hours Introduction to Dental Assisting, 210 hours Dental Infection Control, 465 hours Dental Assisting 1, 465 hours Dental Assisting 2.
- Externship component: 3 months clinical experience assisting licensed dentists in local practices.
- Accreditation:
Commission on Dental Accreditation (ADA) and Florida Board of Dentistry standards. - Financial aid opportunities for Florida residents and Pell‑eligible students; fee structure includes tuition, lab, and required equipment.
- Assist in patient examinations, cleanings, and procedures under dentist supervision.
- Perform dental radiography using state‑approved equipment.
- Maintain infection control protocols and sterilization practices.
- Prepare and document patient records accurately.
- High school diploma or equivalent; age 18 for dual enrollment students.
- Pass the Basic Skills Assessment within 6 weeks of admission.
- Complete required physical exams, immunizations, and background check.
- Earn Florida Expanded Functions and Florida Dental Radiographer certificates.
