Position Overview

Oversees student learning activities in the Tutoring and Academic Success Center (TASC). Designs, pilots, implements, coordinates, and evaluates tutoring, study coaching, supplemental instruction, workshop programs, and developmental skills labs. Engages with a large number of students daily, teaching and reinforcing independent learning strategies while providing content‑specific support.

Develops, organizes, updates, and maintains study materials. Coordinates learning initiatives with the TASC team, faculty, course coordinators, and department chairs.

Compensation and Schedule

This is a 10‑month position scheduled for 35 hours per week with a salary range prorated to $22,009.40–$32,313.17.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, coordinate, and assess the success of tutoring, study coaching, and supplemental instruction initiatives; develop study and review materials.
  • Maintain expert knowledge in one or more academic areas (Math, English, or Science). Serve as a resource person for peer tutors, mentor and train new student tutors, and develop the tutor training manual. Tutor students individually who request assistance.
  • Present TASC orientations to students and faculty and represent the center at college events.
  • Design and implement individualized student development activities to help students achieve academic improvement aligned with their goals, values, interests, and abilities.
  • Supervise the operation of TASC during evening and weekend hours when the Lab Manager is absent; ensure a productive study atmosphere.
  • Stay current on professional practices and instructional technologies; manage, implement, and train staff and students on these tools, troubleshooting common issues.
  • Conduct workshops on demand, coordinating with students and faculty to address their needs; develop workshop materials and prepare presentations using appropriate instructional approaches.
  • Collaborate with other TASC staff to maintain inventories, troubleshoot equipment, report repairs, select resources and supplies, and open/close the facility as needed.
  • Perform any other tasks or duties as assigned.
  • Required Qualifications
    • Education/

      Experience:

      Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a four‑year college or university and one or more years of related experience or training. Prior tutoring or teaching experience preferred.
    • Academic Expertise: Demonstrable knowledge of college‑level math (algebra, trigonometry, statistics, or calculus) or science (biology, chemistry, physics, anatomy & physiology) or English.
    • Supervisory

      Experience:

      One or more years as a lead employee, responsible for scheduling, training, and assisting others.
    • Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional documents, write reports and correspondence, and present information to diverse audiences.
    • Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; perform calculations with standard measures of currency, weight, volume, and distance.
    • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled instructions.
    • Computer

      Skills:

      Intermediate word processing, spreadsheets, internet, and e‑mail skills; proficiency with discipline‑specific and college software.
