Overview

An adjunct faculty member will be responsible for maintaining the highest academic standards in his/her particular discipline. The individual is expected to exercise professionalism in all activities related to the role of academician, including those concerned with the various duties assigned by the Department Chair, and any involvement with colleagues, peers, community and students. The position is temporary and contracted as needed.

Location

This position is on the Bradenton campus with possible online options.

Compensation

Adjunct Faculty will be compensated at a rate of $2000 per 3 ILH.

Responsibilities
  • Teaches all courses as assigned.
  • Maintains attendance and punctuality.
  • Maintains a professional appearance at all times.
  • Prepares course syllabi (if not provided by the Department).
  • Prepares instructional materials (if not provided by Department).
  • Delivers course content in an effective manner to support student learning and meets the designated student learning outcomes.
  • Participates in assessment.
  • Meets all scheduled classes on the assigned day /time.
  • Uses scheduled class time appropriately.
  • Makes oneself available to students and college officials as needed.
  • Demonstrates a professional attitude, philosophy, compassion and commitment that promotes student student growth and learning.
  • Demonstrates commitment to the institutional mission, goals, and objectives.
  • Adheresto College Rules and Procedures, whichreflect updated Federal, state, and local legislation/regulations and College policy that governs the educational process.
  • Maintainsaccurate student records for grading and attendance purposes, submittingattendance,grades, and other reports within college deadlines.
  • During periods of planned absences, coordinates with the respective Department Chair or supervising academic administrator for qualified substitute instructors and provides instructional materials, protocols, and directions to ensure consistent and sequential classroom instruction.
  • Promote sand maintainsa healthy and safe educational and work environment, free from harassment and discrimination.
  • Demonstratesprofessional growth and development by updating knowledge of subject matterand using effective teaching techniques.
  • Develops, maintains and promotes a positive working environment among departmental faculty.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the respective Department Chair or other supervising academic administrator.
  • Qualifications

    Education/

    Experience:

    Demonstrated teaching skills and subject knowledge, preferably at the community college level. Degree and credit hour requirements must be met in accordance with the criteria for accreditation of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. A master’s degree in any discipline coupled with appropriate academic preparation in the development of academic skills needed to be a successful college student, including learning strategies, library research, text comprehension, note taking, test preparation, etc.

    Computer

    Skills:

    Must demonstrate effective use of instructional technology and be familiar with current office hardware and software.

    Communication

    Must be able to effectively communicate with students, staff and the public.

    Work Environment

    The noise level in the work environment varies from very quiet to moderate as is typical of an office or classroom environment. The environment is usually indoors in a centrally heated/air-conditioned climate. Lighting conditions meet recommended standards and are provided by direct and/or indirect electric light fixtures of various kinds. This position may require the wearing of personal protective devices for health and safety precautions.

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to touch, handle, feel or reach objects, tools and controls; and verbally communicate with students and co-workers. The employee may be frequently required to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.

    Independently transport oneself to various campus locations on a 100-acre campus. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, identification and discernment of colors, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
