EDUCATION ASSISTANT – Bradenton, FL
Suncoast Behavioral Health Center, a behavioral health facility serving children and adolescents, opened in 2014 and offers a range of inpatient, partial and intensive outpatient treatments. We are seeking a full‑time Education Assistant to work in our adolescent residential treatment unit (7:30 AM–4:00 PM), year‑round.
Responsibilities- Collaborate and communicate with instructional and therapeutic staff to create a positive and responsive classroom culture.
- Demonstrate ability to manage student behavior.
- Develop awareness of each student's special needs.
- Demonstrate consistent awareness for each student's safety.
- Assist in maintaining documentation, data collection, and the instructional process as directed by the teacher.
- Utilize knowledge and skills related to crisis intervention and verbal de‑escalation to provide a safe environment for students, visitors and staff.
- Complete tasks assigned by the teacher pertaining to classroom environment, educational materials, and other operational functions (e.g., grading papers, researching materials, phone calls, point sheet tabulation).
- Complete student enrollment, records requests, and discharge paperwork.
- Provide administrative support to the education department, as needed.
- Communicate with parents, school districts, and others who need student records and information.
- Maintain all FERPA and HIPAA privacy provisions.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, or Social Services preferred.
- Previous work experience in education or a behavioral health setting preferred.
- Experience with, knowledge of, or training in crisis prevention preferred.
- Successful completion and maintenance of CPR certification, First Aid certification, verbal de‑escalation, and Handle With Care (HWC) training. Must be able to participate in and complete HWC training annually.
