- Act as an elevator inspector and perform monitoring and oversight inspections of private and contracted certified elevator inspectors on new, existing, altered, and operating elevators to ensure compliance with Elevator Safety Codes (ASME A17.1 and A17.3), National Electrical Code, Florida Statutes Chapter 399, Florida Administrative Code 61C-5, handicapped laws, and fire safety rules.
- Conduct inspections of new building construction, associated facilities, and building systems, and enforce compliance with state building and life safety codes.
- Perform monitoring inspection of 2‑stop exempt elevators; conduct complaint, accident, and callback inspections as required; issue inspection reports to construction permit holders and elevator owners identifying violations and setting compliance deadlines.
- Prepare and maintain accurate inspection records, including daily reports, leave and attendance records, monthly activity reports, travel costs, mileage, and vehicle operating costs.
- Assist in resolving construction problems involving elevators with contractors, architects, building officials, fire officials, elevator companies, and elevator owners.
- Post notices of discontinue operation on unsafe elevators and install physical seals when necessary.
- Represent the bureau in meetings on elevator, building, or electrical codes and provide technical assistance to division personnel, elevator owners, elevator companies, building officials, and fire officials.
- Current registration as a Certified Elevator Inspector (Florida), Chapter 399 F.S., or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hiring.
- Qualified Elevator Inspector (National) in good standing.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Willingness and ability to travel within the State of Florida up to 25% of the time.
- Knowledge of the ASME A17.1 Elevator Safety Code, Florida laws, regulations, and policies applicable to elevator safety.
- Strong data review and verification skills; ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments; effective communication; independence and teamwork.
- State of Florida retirement package: 3% employee contribution required.
