Job Overview

The Clinical Staff Pharmacist provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care through service excellence, clinical services, education of patients, staff and colleagues, and integrated drug distribution. The clinical pharmacist provides clinical services within the scope and polices of the hospital by the monitoring drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, allergies, adverse reactions and appropriateness of drug, dosage form, regimen, route, and therapeutic duplications.

General

Responsibilities
  • Regularly profile patient medication orders, and support distributive functions as needed
  • Interprets medication orders (verbal, written, or computerized order entry) and transcribes or verifies orders on medication patient profile accurately
  • Monitors drugs therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, allergies, adverse reactions, and appropriateness of drug, dosage form, regimen, route, and therapeutic duplications
  • Maintains the hospital's drug formulary by minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic substitution protocols, and promoting rational drug therapy selection
  • Participates in continuing education programs, meetings, training programs, and related activities as required
  • Participates in the Quality Improvement and Medication Use Review activities of the department. Collects data, conducts inspections, and maintains logs and other documentation as assigned
  • Supervises and directs the pharmacy's support personnel. Verifies the accuracy of all compounding, IV admixtures, and Pyxis fills and loads by the technician
  • In the absence of the Director of Pharmacy, a Clinical Staff Pharmacist II may be required to assume the essential responsibilities and perform the duties of the Director of Pharmacy
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in pharmacy required (BS Pharm). Doctor of Pharmacy preferred (Pharm

    D).
  • One (1) year minimum, three (3) years preferred of acute care experience.
  • Residency/fellowship in the field of specialty is desired and will count as 2 years' experience.
  • Current and active Pharmacist License in the State of Florida required.
  • Strong proficiency in computer literacy including but not limited to MS Office, Pharmacy clinical systems (Cerner), and Pyxis technologies.
