We are seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Doctor’s Assistant (DA) to join our Orthopedics & Sports Medicine team.
The Lead DA serves as an experienced resource and leader for the DA team while continuing to provide comprehensive support to assigned physicians and mid-level providers. This role is ideal for someone who is organized, approachable, confident in their decision-making, and enjoys helping others succeed in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
What You’ll DoAs a Lead Doctor’s Assistant
, you will provide hands-on support to physicians, patients, and the DA team while helping ensure efficient daily operations.
- Serve as a positive, approachable resource for DA staff, assisting with routine workflow questions and day-to-day operational concerns.
- Provide DA oversight and support to the DA Manager, including assisting in the Manager’s absence.
- Assist with monitoring workflows, task completion, patient flow, staffing coverage, and adherence to department processes.
- Assist with staff scheduling, daily coverage coordination, and workflow adjustments based on department needs.
- Serve as a DA trainer as needed, supporting onboarding, competency development, and ongoing staff training.
- Step in as a Float DA when needed to support department operations and coverage.
- Communicate effectively with the DA Manager regarding staffing, workflow, performance concerns, training needs, and other departmental matters.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and exceptional customer service throughout the department.
- Utilize strong leadership, communication, conflict-resolution, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
- Serve as a key liaison between physicians, patients, and internal and external healthcare partners.
- Manage daily administrative responsibilities, including phone calls, email correspondence, patient portal communications, mail, scanning, faxing, and medical records.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
- Manage and coordinate surgical schedules for assigned physicians.
- Coordinate pre-operative testing and provide patients with appropriate surgical and pre-operative education.
- Ensure appropriate follow-through with post-operative care and coordination of services.
- Verify physician orders, procedures, diagnoses, and supporting documentation.
- Ensure accurate CPT and ICD-10 coding on surgical requisitions.
- Coordinate patient care with referring physicians, ambulatory surgery centers, hospitals, pharmacies, laboratories, physical therapy centers, skilled nursing facilities, home health agencies, imaging centers, and medical supply vendors.
- Respond to patient concerns with professionalism, compassion, and urgency.
- Help ensure patients receive timely, accurate, and exceptional service throughout their care journey.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and company information.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the practice.
