Job SummaryAs a Sorter at RWB Thrift, you play a crucial role in the initial sorting and categorization of donated items.
Your responsibilities include efficiently processing incoming donations, sorting items into designated categories such as clothing, textiles, accessories, household goods, and electronics.
You will ensure that items meet quality standards and are prepared for further processing or distribution to various departments within the thrift store.
Your attention to detail, ability to work efficiently in a team environment, and commitment to maintaining quality standards contribute directly to the operational efficiency and customer satisfaction at RWB Thrift.
Key Responsibilities- Sort and categorize donated items according to established guidelines and categories.
- Inspect items for quality, cleanliness, and suitability for sale.
- Ensure items are properly prepared and distributed to appropriate departments or processing areas.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in sorting areas and workstations.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve production targets and maintain workflow efficiency.
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
- Assist in other tasks within the sorting and processing areas as needed.
- Contribute to a positive work environment through teamwork and effective communication.
- Previous experience in sorting, warehouse, or retail environment preferred.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Team‑oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively.
- Ability to safely perform job functions in accordance with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity requirements.
- Physical strength: occasionally lift and carry up to 70 lbs, frequently exert up to 25 lbs of force, and constantly apply negligible force when handling objects.
- Endurance: able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Manual dexterity: proficient in performing repetitive motions such as extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction and working primarily with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm.
- Fine motor skills: skilled in tasks involving seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands.
- Balance and agility: capable of maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces, as well as maintaining balance when performing agile tasks.
- Visual acuity: possesses clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more.
- Atmosphere: dynamic and consistently busy; ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment is essential.
- Noise level: noisy due to bustling activity; ability to work effectively in a noisy environment is required.
- Lighting: bright lighting throughout the front and back of the store; ability to work effectively in a bright environment is required.
- Interactions with others: regular interactions with customers, donors, and coworkers; effective communication and interpersonal skills are required.
- Flexibility: high degree of flexibility required; may be asked to switch tasks or departments based on operational needs.
- Employees are not required to communicate exclusively in English; however, interactions may largely occur in English.
- Fundamental understanding of written and spoken English for comprehending instructions, and ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English, may be necessary.
