The Manufacturing Supervisor at RND Automation is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day machine-building activities on the production floor. This role ensures that custom automation systems are assembled, wired, and tested to engineering specifications, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards. The Manufacturing Supervisor leads a team of skilled technicians and assemblers, coordinating workflow, maintaining safety compliance, and driving continuous improvement across all build operations.

Production Oversight
  • Plan, schedule, and manage daily machine building activities to meet project timelines and delivery commitments.
  • Monitor build progress against project schedules and proactively communicate status to Operations and Project Management teams.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and project management to ensure materials, components, and documentation are available when needed.
  • Review and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, BOMs, and assembly work instructions to guide build teams.
Team Leadership
  • Directly supervise a team of assemblers, electricians, and technicians; assign daily tasks and priorities.
  • Conduct regular team huddles to communicate goals, address concerns, and reinforce safety and quality expectations.
  • Provide on-the-floor coaching and technical guidance during complex assembly or wiring tasks.
  • Support hiring decisions, onboarding of new team members, and ongoing performance management.
  • Identify training needs and coordinate skill development opportunities for direct reports.
Quality & Safety
  • Enforce adherence to RND Automation quality standards, customer specifications, and applicable regulatory requirements (UL, CE, OSHA, etc.).
  • Lead or participate in first-article inspections, in-process checks, and final machine acceptance testing.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by upholding all safety policies, conducting regular safety observations, and addressing hazards promptly.
  • Investigate non-conformances and work with the quality team to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
Resource & Materials Management
  • Track and manage shop-floor inventory levels; coordinate with procurement to resolve shortages or component substitutions.
  • Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and calibration of tools and test equipment.
  • Manage labor hours effectively to stay within project budgets; report variances and recommend corrective actions.
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to reduce build time, improve quality, and increase efficiency across machine-building processes.
  • Champion lean manufacturing practices and 5S standards on the production floor.
  • Participate in cross-functional design-for-manufacturability (DFM) reviews to improve build quality upstream.
Qualifications

Required
  • 5+ years of experience in industrial machine building, automation assembly, or a related manufacturing environment.
  • 2+ years of supervisory or lead experience in a manufacturing or production setting.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical assembly, electrical/panel wiring, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and BOMs.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable working across engineering, operations, and customer-facing teams.
Preferred
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Industrial Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology, or a related field - or equivalent technical training/apprenticeship.
  • Experience with custom automation, robotics integration, or control panel assembly.
  • Familiarity with UL 508A industrial control panel standards and/or CE machinery directives.
  • Experience with ERP or MRP systems for production tracking and materials management.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and/or Six Sigma methodologies.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position is performed primarily in a manufacturing shop environment. The role requires frequent standing, walking, and working in close proximity to machinery and industrial equipment. Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs may be required. Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required on the production floor at all times.
