Job OverviewThe Orthopedic Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner assists in providing seamless care to orthopedic surgical and nonsurgical patients by acting as a liaison between supervising physicians and other medical providers such as hospitalists and consultants as well as communicating and coordinating care with OR scheduling, patient support person and/or family members.
General Responsibilities- Completes ordered orthopedic consultations, ER and nursing unit, as requested for supervising physicians
- Orders appropriate testing/imaging for patient evaluation and pre-operative testing for surgical patients.
- Contacts physician when consultation is complete.
- Schedules operative cases after consulting with supervising physician.
- Performs daily rounds on patients and orders appropriate testing including radiographs, labs, and urgent studies.
- Communicates updates with attending MD/APP.
- Enters post operative orders.
- Performs appropriate bedside procedures such as aspirations, injections, and application of splints, braces, and casts, bedside incisions and drainage, as well as closed reductions.
- Assists in surgical procedures as needed.
- Always demonstrates Service Excellence standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Master’s Degree required. Doctoral degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. 5-7 years specialized medical training.
- Minimum of 3 years of orthopedic assistance preferred.
- Must be board certified.
- Must hold or be able to obtain an active Florida Medical Licensure prior to start.
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS at start date.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support ACLS at start date.
- Basic computer skills.
- Must have the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with many different surgeons who follow different protocols.
- Must be self‑directed, organized and possess effective communication skills when communicating with physicians and hospital staff.
