Verifies insurance benefits and obtains authorization/pre-certification on all inpatient, outpatient, and ER accounts as required by the insurance company.
General Responsibilities- Documents all financial information and follow up into the hospital information system.
- Scans insurance and financial documents into document imaging.
- Assists patients/guarantors in understanding their financial responsibilities for health care provided.
- Completes financial statements, and assesses patients for possible Charity and Medicaid assistance.
- Collects co-pays, deductibles and self-pay money as applicable.
- Assists with the registration process as requested.
- Maintains good public relations with hospital personnel, physicians and their staff, insurance companies, and patients.
- Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
- Minimum of a High School Diploma; 2-year degree preferred.
- One year experience in a medical setting required.
- Demonstrated collections experience.
- Minimum of 16 hours training with Quality Director and 40 hours departmental orientation.
- Communication and interpersonal skills, basic computer skills and customer service skills required.
- Able to type 40 WPM with accuracy in spelling.
- Medical terminology and knowledge of third party requirements.
- Able to handle stressful situations.
- Must be flexible in work schedule.
