Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm (Standby, nights, weekends, on rotation required).
Expected Starting Hourly Range: $20.68 - $25.84
Job OverviewThis classification performs a variety of entry level, semi‑skilled, or skilled maintenance, construction, and/or mechanical tasks involved in the continuous operation of Manatee County's Water Distribution Systems.
Note: Position level and salary will be dependent on qualifications (DOQ).

Working ConditionsThe work environment may include exposure to high noise levels while performing certain essential job functions. The position requires the ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 80 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance, with or without reasonable accommodation. Work may involve strenuous physical activity under varying climatic conditions and in both indoor and outdoor environments.
EssentialFunctions

- Perform and/or assist with skilled and semi‑skilled tasks in maintaining, repairing and operating related equipment and facilities, wells, pump stations, etc.; high pressure water transmission mains (54" to 3/4" diameter) and local distribution lines, services, meters, fire hydrants and other appurtenances; perform construction layouts and establish grades for all types of utility installations.
- Perform and/or assist with operating and maintaining appropriate service equipment including Utility service trucks, backhoes, dump trucks, equipment trailers, loaders; metal cutting and welding equipment; hydraulic and pneumatic presses, tapping machines, valve operators and wrenches; trenching machines; boring machines; pipe cutters; dewatering systems; pumps; alignment tools; locating and leak detection devices and a wide variety of powered and unpowered hand tools.
- Perform and/or assist in supervising installations, rebuilds, and repairs of water pipelines, vaults, valves, fire hydrants, meters, and backflow prev enters; isolate water lines for repairs, inspection, or construction; form and pour concrete; rebuild and restore all types of roadways, curbs, and sidewalks; adjust valve box rims and covers to grade; install, rebuild, and repair wide array of pumps, electrical generators and other mechanical equipment in the County's Water system, water storage reservoirs, well fields, and pump stations;
perform building and grounds maintenance as needed. - Perform and/or assist in organizing and preparing parts, equipment, and tools for the day's work; maintain daily work records and complete reports on work activities; ensure job site safety through traffic control and equipment location; act as "competent person" on job site for purposes of confined space and excavation safety rule compliance in absence of maintenance supervisor; fill out work orders;
respond to after‑hours emergency repair calls. - May train new technicians in the proper use of required equipment and serve in a "lead" capacity when required.
- Communicate clearly, effectively and tactfully, orally and in writing, including understanding and following instructions and other materials (i.e. manuals, schematics, maps, etc.).
- Read, interpret and follow pertinent blueprints, utility maps, as‑built, and record drawings.
- Perform other related duties as assigned, including participation in emergency or disaster response activities, as required and consistent with the employee’s qualifications, essential job functions, and applicable federal and Florida law.
- Tech IA – III: All levels require a high school diploma or recognized equivalent. Participation in a rotating Stand‑By/On‑Call schedule required.
