Second Shift Technician

This position is for Second Shift, 1:00 pm to 11:00 pm

Purpose of Position:

To plan, perform, and/or supervise construction and/or maintenance of overhead and/or underground distribution lines. To have knowledge in and be responsible for areas that are more technical. Such as voltage recorders, electronic devices, and station equipment, any technology that will help system reliability. Safety shall not be compromised for the purpose of this position.

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalency required.
• Must be a First Class Line Technician
• Valid Class A Florida Commercial Driver License or must have knowledge and skills to obtain said license within 90 days of employment.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle with automatic or manual transmission.
• Ability to communicate on a two-way radio system.
• Ability to perform job tasks involving bending, stooping, climbing, and lifting heavy objects. Sufficient hearing and vision to perform all job tasks. Impaired hearing and/or vision must not present a safety hazard to the employee, other employees, and/or the general public.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods.
• Manual dexterity and mechanical ability to use hand tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.
• Ability to climb poles with pole climbers.

Working Conditions:

Outside work in various weather conditions including occasional extreme weather conditions. Regular work hours with some overtime and extended work days due to weather-created outage or emergencies. Some risks are due to unrestrained pets. Potential exposure to high voltage power lines. Will individually or with assistance pull or use force regularly for materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, frequently pull or use force up to 50 pounds, and occasionally pull and use force up to 100 pounds.

Reaching and lifting overhead is required. The job requires standing, crawling, climbing, bending, pulling, and reaching a majority of the time.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

The scope and duties of this position may change or be temporarily altered based on the business needs of Peace River Electric Cooperative. The basic requirement of every position is to perform all tasks as assigned by your supervisor.

A. Organization

• Performance Appraisal:
  Appraises periodically the performance of personnel assigned under personal supervision and reviews such appraisal with the Operations Supervisor.
• Training:
  Sees that personnel under personal supervision are thoroughly trained in accordance with the qualifications and requirements of their position. Participates in safety programs, promotes safe working habits, and encourages the use of protective equipment through coaching and counseling of assigned personnel. Trains personnel on the job concerning safety.

B. Operations

1. Planning

• Work Flow:
  Plans a daily work schedule which will utilize the employees, materials, and transportation as effectively as possible, but which permits changes in daily work schedule when required because of emergency.
• Work Program:
  Determines the requirement of tools, equipment, and materials needed for all types of jobs.
• Equipment & Tools:
  Determines the need for repair of equipment and replacement of tools and submits requisitions for supplies and work equipment for crew operation to the department supervisor.
