Finisher; 2nd Shift

Position: Finisher (2nd Shift 3p.m. - 11:00p.m.)
PRIMARY DUTIES OF THE FINISHER:

Essential Functions/ Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

• Assuring work area is safe.
• Performing the various skills of finishing a Case knife, including but not limited to:
• Buffing Blades:
  The blades are buffed by hand (using a cloth wheel) to add a shine or luster.
• Gloss Buffing:
  The entire surface of the knife is buffed by hand, using cloth buffing wheel.
• Hone:
  Create the cutting edge of the blade by hand, using a sandpaper belt.
• Polish Edge:
  Removing the burr left over from the honing process. This is done by hand, using a cloth wheel.
• Perform sand paper/belt changes as required.
• Perform various wheel changes as required.
• Breaking in the new buff/raking down buff as necessary.
• Properly applying buffing compound to the buffing wheels.
• Measure the angle of the honed edge.
• Determine quality levels and perform inspection of product, performing required inspection before, during and after finishing.
• Responsible for cleanliness of the work area during and upon his or her completion of jobs.
• Take instructions from supervisors.
• Assist Engineering/Quality departments as needed.

Physical Requirements:

• Standing:
  As required by operation.
• Sitting:
  Able to sit for extended periods in front of equipment.
• Moving:
  Normal, able to move throughout the department as required by operation.
• Lifting:
  Minimal, up to 35 pounds. Lifting of trays containing knives, wheels and/or other components.
• Pushing/Pulling:
  As required by operation.
• Visual Acuity:
  Normal and/or corrected vision for inspection of work /components.
• Bending/Stooping:
  Normal, minimal.
• Hand Action:
  Some processes require gripping, turning, pushing with fingertips.
• Repetitive Motion:
  Some processes require wrist motion, pressure, and exposure to vibration.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of W.R. Case Job/Safety Orientation.
• On the job training.
