About the role: As Associate Curator you will work closely with specialist curators and the Collections Review team to systematically review select collections located in the Museum’s Small Object Store, including hazardous objects. You will engage with colleagues, external specialists, and researchers to enhance our understanding of the collection and carry out research to improve the database. You will be a key member of a small project team of three, collaborating daily in a compact store environment.

Responsibilities
  • Systematically review selected collections, including hazardous objects, in the Small Object Store.
  • Engage with colleagues, external specialists and researchers to enhance understanding of the collection.
  • Carry out research and examine the historical significance of collections to improve database information.
  • Handle, assess, document and catalogue objects following best practice in collections development.
  • Collaborate closely with a small project team and other stakeholders across the Science Museum Group.
Qualifications
  • Experience working with museum collections and comfortable handling hazardous objects, including radioactive material.
  • Ability to work safely with hazardous objects under Health and Safety policies.
  • High‑quality research skills using a variety of sources to assess collection suitability.
  • Practical collections management skills in handling, assessing, documenting and cataloguing.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and team‑working skills.
  • Self‑motivated, organised, detail‑oriented with the ability to prioritise work and operate with minimal supervision.
