As a ministerial employee of a Catholic school, the teacher supports and strengthens the Catholic Church’s mission by conveying its teachings through personal and professional conduct. The role involves teaching physical education to PK‑5th grade students while upholding the school’s core religious values.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Strictly observe the Code of Professional Ethics.
- Understand and implement the educational and spiritual philosophy of the local school.
- Instruct students in assigned subjects, guide learning, and adjust instruction to meet individual needs.
- Plan lessons, prepare materials, help individual students, read professional literature, serve on diocesan staff committees, attend faculty meetings, and confer with the principal on instructional and disciplinary issues.
- Participate in all faculty meetings and prescribed in‑service training.
- Attend teacher institutes as stipulated by the school and the Diocese of Joliet.
- Complete Catholic identity formation training and other required professional development from the Diocese.
- Supervise students and maintain discipline before, during, and after school.
- Remain present in the classroom during scheduled periods except for emergencies.
- Maintain knowledge of each student’s cumulative folder.
- Secure principal approval for important communications with parents.
- Encourage responsibility in student conduct and in interactions with others.
- Contribute to the physical, mental, and spiritual well‑being of students.
- Make appropriate reports to the principal and parents regarding student progress.
- Collaborate with parents to support their role as primary educators.
- Communicate professionally with all constituents, including administration, pastor, parish priests, colleagues, students, parents, and prospective parents.
- Use technology to enhance student learning.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the principal or pastor.
- Current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or a valid out‑of‑state license from a reciprocal state; participation in an accredited licensure program is acceptable.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Elementary Education or a related discipline relevant to the teaching assignment.
- Practicing Catholic (preferred; required for teaching religion or theology courses).
Employee may be required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, use hands, reach, climb stairs, and lift up to 20–30 pounds; work may occur indoors and outdoors during student activities.
Compensation & BenefitsAnnual salary range: $31,824 – $58,352 (prorated based on full‑time equivalency). Salary determined by relevant experience and education. Paid personal leave days are offered.
