ScheduleHours:
8 hours per day, 174 duty days per school year (2026‑2027 school year – ongoing)
$20.68 - $21.74 per hour (based on education and experience; wages outlined in the Behavior Management / Student Support Specialist Handbook on the district website)

The Building Behavioral Management Specialist will provide 1:1 or small group support to students with significant cognitive and/or behavioral needs. This position requires specialized behavioral support and skills to meet the unique needs of students. The role is physically demanding and demands critical thinking and rapid response skills. Handle With Care certification will be required.
Essential Functions- Implement and monitor behavior intervention plans for students
- Work 1:1 with students requiring significant behavioral support
- Ensure student and others' safety at all times
- Provide home‑bound service/support when appropriate and necessary
- Consult with parents/guardians, service providers, and community agencies to provide effective services
- Demonstrate and model appropriate developmental and behavioral skills for students
- Respond flexibly and rapidly to students who are deregulated or stressed
- Respond to student and staff needs as they arise; if 1:1 student is absent, staff will be assigned to support other teachers and students
- Participate in student meetings where staff problem‑solve and develop plans to support students with behavioral concerns
- Participate physically with students in the activities being taught
- Attend meetings (IEP, conferences, parent/guardian meetings, in‑services, etc.) to develop plans and provide information regarding student goals/outcomes
- Monitor student progress and prepare documentation and reports regarding progress
- Maintain confidentiality
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Two‑year Associate’s Degree, 60 college credits, and/or successful completion of the Para Pro assessment
- Experience supporting students with significant behavioral needs, autism, and cognitive impairments
- Experience or willingness to learn how to implement Behavior Intervention Plans
- Handle With Care certification
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to be a team member
- Ability to support students requiring behavior intervention techniques and programs
- Ability to problem‑solve and de‑escalate students during deregulation or stress
- Physical fitness to potentially implement restrictive procedures
- Knowledge of functional behavioral assessments and behavioral intervention techniques
- Flexibility based on program and student needs
- Calmness and patience in volatile situations; quick response capability
- Ability to work under the supervision of a site principal and/or special education teacher
- Ability to adapt equipment and materials as needed
- Strong organizational skills
- Sensitivity in working with individuals having various physical, psychological, cognitive, and sensory abilities
- Ability to work with students, families, professionals, and staff of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds
- Ability to interact with and maintain cooperative relationships with all levels of staff and the public
- Maintain current Handle With Care certification
- Maintain current certifications in First Aid, CPR, and medication administration
