Job Summary

Administers speech and language evaluations, tests or examinations to diagnose and plan treatments for clients, patients, and residents with various speech problems and swallowing disorders. Assesses clients, patients, and residents with various speech, language, cognitive, or swallowing problems and develops individualized treatment plans based on clinical diagnoses. Provides speech and language services to clients, patients, and residents; monitors disease progression and adjusts treatments accordingly.

Instructs clients, patients, and residents in practicing therapeutic exercises; provides consultation for those working through speech and language treatment processes. Ensures all speech and language related standards, policies, protocols, and quality requirements are met. May treat individuals of all ages with varying diagnoses and disorders, demonstrates documentation in accordance with departmental guidelines, and meets all regulatory requirements. Demonstrates level of treatment associated with specialty provided, follows and adheres to accepted clinical practice guidelines of professional organizations.

Exhibits flexibility with acceptance of variable work schedules and assignments. Participates in activities to promote the department, Good Samaritan Society, and Sanford Health. Interacts with individuals outside the department, including providers, case managers, third‑party payers, public organizations, and others. May supervise assistants, aides, and students as they provide client or resident care, treatment, or other services. Expected to provide ongoing education and training to peers in areas of expertise as determined by department leadership.

Performs other related duties as requested by manager. Focus may include intervention in post‑acute, long‑term care, and home health environments when applicable.

Qualifications
  • Appropriate education level required according to state licensure.
  • Must be licensed in the state(s) of practice as Speech‑Language Pathologist.
  • If working at a Sanford Health Facility, preferred to hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence issued by the American Speech‑Language Hearing Association (ASHA) or be currently working on a Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY).
  • When applicable, a valid driver’s license may be required.
  • Must obtain and subsequently maintain required department‑specific competencies and certifications.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers is required or must be obtained within the first 60 days of employment.
