- Department Details: Good Samaritan - Woodland is a 42-bed long-term skilled care and transitional care facility located in Brainerd, Minnesota, in an area known as "The Heart of the Brainerd Lakes Area".
- Shift requirements: Must be available to work 6 shifts per month, including two weekend shifts and holiday rotation; additional weekend incentive of $1.25 per hour; additional shift incentive of $1.25 for hours worked from 6:00pm to 6:00am; must be a Certified Nursing Assistant in Minnesota.
The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to residents during the scheduled work period in long-term care. The NA provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN), delivering age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of residents as per care plans. The NA assists with basic health-care needs, including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, vital-sign collection, and psychosocial support.
The NA aids residents in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct transfer techniques and equipment, and provides range-of-motion and passive exercises. The NA completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, creating a positive dining experience, and assists with meals and snacks, providing water and supplements as appropriate. The NA aids providers and nursing staff with procedures, documents resident interactions, and monitors resident behavior, activity, and dietary outcomes.
The NA communicates changes in residents’ condition and concerns to the charge nurse, collects non-invasive body-fluid specimens, provides housekeeping and laundry services, and supports wellness and recreational programs. The NA may also participate in departmental or organizational committees and task forces as needed.
- High school graduate or GED preferred (not required).
- Minimum age of 16 years.
- Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
- Must obtain a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing of Minnesota within four months of starting (enrollment in a training program or endorsement accepted).
- Complete yearly department-specific competency testing and maintain at least 12 hours of continuing education credits annually.
- Maintain all required certifications and, where applicable, register with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
- Potentially classified as a Sanford Category II driver; must provide a vehicle report, valid driver’s license, and be medically qualified to perform essential driving functions per the Sanford Driving Policy.
