St. Mary of the Assumption Parish is a vibrant Catholic community serving families, students, and professionals in Brookline and Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. We seek a practicing Catholic to lead Faith Formation for toddler through grade 5 and support sacramental preparation for children and families.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop K–5 curricula rooted in Scripture, Church teaching, liturgy, devotions, prayer, and the lives of the saints.
  • Oversee our toddler program, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, including recruiting catechists, volunteer training and program coordination.
  • Prepare children of catechetical age (7+) for the reception of Baptism, Confirmation and
  • Eucharist through the process of OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults).
  • Recruit and train volunteer catechists in teaching methods and classroom management.
  • Design and manage a 20‑week Sunday program aligned with parish and school calendars.
  • Coordinate facilities and scheduling with pastor, parish staff and the elementary school principal.
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator of Religious Education for grades 6-12 on appropriate projects and shared events, such as training for catechists, as well as catechist appreciation events.
  • Provide regular communication to the pastor, parents, and parish community
  • Maintain parish presence through website updates, weekly email newsletters, bulletin notes, and social media.
  • Host registration events, parent meetings, and catechist gatherings.
  • Collaborate with the Archdiocesan Office of Lifelong Faith Formation and Child Advocacy Office.
  • Coordinate and attend First Confession and First Communion, , including retreats and receptions. Coordinate Volunteers and parents to provide hospitality at receptions.
  • Provide adult faith‑formation opportunities for parents 4 times a year.
  • Maintain sacramental records and family contact information.
  • Ensure all volunteers have completed Protecting God’s Children Training and annual CORI requirements.
  • Order and manage all program materials and supplies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Practicing Catholic committed to Church teaching
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience teaching Faith Formation or in a classroom setting
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skill
