Job Description
BPS School Nutrition Manager
General
Purpose:
To provide each student and staff member in the school with food of high nutritious quality in an atmosphere of cleanliness, cheerfulness, and personal caring.
Supervision Received:
Works under the Assistant Director of School Nutrition and Director of School Nutrition Services for Braintree Public Schools.
Supervision Exercised:
Supervise and instruct part-time or temporary staff as needed and assigned under the direction of the Assistant Director and Director of School Nutrition Services. Perform evaluations of full and part-time school nutrition workers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The school nutrition manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of meal production, service, sanitation, and safety. As such, the school nutrition manager prepares and assists in serving of food according to standards related to sanitary conditions; uses all cooking equipment correctly; uses correct recipes and serving sizes, and makes certain service is done in a professional and efficient manner.
* Must be Serv Safe Certified.
* Uses objective and subjective indicators to evaluate food quality.
* Follows standards to check temperature of food and equipment while maintaining logs.
* Follows meal pattern requirements and standardized recipes in preparing and serving student meals.
* Follows standards of safety in preparing, storing, and serving food.
* Follows monthly menu and forecasts production accordingly.
* Maintains personal hygiene and follows sanitation protocols, such as washing hands and changing gloves.
* Accepts payment and makes change.
* Operates POS (point of service) system for students and adults.
* Accurately completes and maintains required records, including but not limited to production records, day-end reports, HACCP and other logs.
* Completes monthly inventory.
* Attends job-related training classes, meetings, and workshops.
* Prepares daily bank deposit for pickup by Courier.
* Place all grocery/supply/cold production orders as directed by School Nutrition Director or designee
* Accepts and follows standard operating procedures (SOP) for receiving all deliveries. Follows First In, First Out procedures.
* Posts all SOP's for staff at stations.
* Checks and answers email and other electronic communication daily.
* Communicates effectively and respectfully with all school nutrition personnel, school faculty, staff, students, and community members.
* Monitors and reports equipment problems to the Director and Principal.
* Any other jobs/duties as assigned by the Director of School Nutrition or Assistant Director of School Nutrition.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear, and use hands to operate kitchen equipment. Employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
