Thayer Academy Middle School French Teacher & Department Chair
Thayer Academy is seeking a full‑time Middle School French teacher to teach 5th‑8th grade students and, where applicable, serve as Department Chair for the World Languages department. This position reports to the Middle School Director.
Responsibilities- Teach 5 French classes to Middle School students.
- Serve as an advisor for the 7th grade.
- Lead the World Languages Department as Department Chair (if applicable).
- Apply practices that foster equity, inclusion, and belonging among the Thayer Academy community.
- Engage in ongoing professional development.
- Participate in ongoing curricular review, documentation, and horizontal/vertical alignment led by MS Associate Director for Academics.
- Train new department members regarding the Academy’s standards, policies, and procedures.
- Assist in observing and evaluating department members with MS Director, MS Associate Director for Academics, and Assistant Head of School for Academics.
- Encourage and recommend professional growth opportunities and support the inquiry goals process for each department member.
- Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s (or higher) preferred in Education, French, or related field. - 5–7 years of Middle School teaching experience preferred.
- Passion for working with middle schoolers and desire to build relationships.
- Commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive community.
- Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.
- High comfort and experience with educational technology.
- Willingness to work collaboratively in a department.
- Effective communication and listening with students and families.
- Preferred:
Experience with Design Thinking or project‑based learning curriculum development. - Preferred:
Experience with Responsive Classrooms or other SEL curriculum and training. - Preferred:
Willingness to incorporate metacognition into lessons.
- Developing your skills alongside an experienced Middle School Director, faculty, and leadership team.

Salary Range: $74,345 – $90,000;
