Thayer Academy Middle School French Teacher & Department Chair

Thayer Academy is seeking a full‑time Middle School French teacher to teach 5th‑8th grade students and, where applicable, serve as Department Chair for the World Languages department. This position reports to the Middle School Director.

• Teach 5 French classes to Middle School students.
• Serve as an advisor for the 7th grade.
• Lead the World Languages Department as Department Chair (if applicable).
• Apply practices that foster equity, inclusion, and belonging among the Thayer Academy community.
• Engage in ongoing professional development.
• Participate in ongoing curricular review, documentation, and horizontal/vertical alignment led by MS Associate Director for Academics.
• Train new department members regarding the Academy’s standards, policies, and procedures.
• Assist in observing and evaluating department members with MS Director, MS Associate Director for Academics, and Assistant Head of School for Academics.
• Encourage and recommend professional growth opportunities and support the inquiry goals process for each department member.

• Bachelor’s degree required;
  Master’s (or higher) preferred in Education, French, or related field.
• 5–7 years of Middle School teaching experience preferred.
• Passion for working with middle schoolers and desire to build relationships.
• Commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive community.
• Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.
• High comfort and experience with educational technology.
• Willingness to work collaboratively in a department.
• Effective communication and listening with students and families.
• Preferred:
  Experience with Design Thinking or project‑based learning curriculum development.
• Preferred:
  Experience with Responsive Classrooms or other SEL curriculum and training.
• Preferred:
  Willingness to incorporate metacognition into lessons.

Salary Range: $74,345 – $90,000;
Competitive salary and benefits.
