The international student coordinator is responsible for the academic and co-curricular integration of our international student population into the community of Archbishop Williams High School. This person will assist the Director of Enrollment Management with all efforts pertaining to the international student program s staff member will conduct all international applicant interviews and will recommend admission decisions for those applicants based on a holistic review of the applicant's materials as well as their demonstrated English proficiency.
The International Student Coordinator will plan and execute International Student Orientation every summer and will be a constant support for the international students over the course of the academic year. In collaboration with the Director of Enrolment Management, this staff member will assist in planning for and hosting prospective international students and their agencies on campus to build the School's relationship with these constituencies.
In collaboration with the School and College Counseling team, this staff member will meet with the School's enrolled international students regularly to discuss a student's academic schedule, social and cultural adjustment to AWHS and their homestay experience. Additionally, the international student coordinator will teach English as a second language to international students and any domestic students that can use the support.
This position shall report to the Principal, but works closely with almost every Administrator at AWHS as well as our partner international student agencies.
Duties are, but not limited to:
- 1) Teach English as Second Language classes to international students and any domestic students that can use the support.
- 2) Monitor the academic progress of the international students and report to Guidance, Administration, and the student’s respective International Student Agency on their progress.
- 3) Work with Guidance and Administration to create appropriate academic intervention programs to ensure the academic progress of our international students.
- 4) Work with the Dean of Students and other members of Administration to ensure that our international students adhere to the policies in the Student/Parent Handbook and the expectations of our International Students Handbook.
- 5) Oversee the social integration of our international students into the climate and culture of the school, particularly international student participation in extracurricular activities.
- 6) Create events to foster community among international students and community between the international student population and our domestic students.
- 7) Assist the Director of Enrollment Management with the admissions process for all international students, including conducting interviews with students.
- 8) Work with the Director of Enrollment Management to recruit and retain international students.
- 9) Maintain the I-20 forms of all international students.
- 10) Serve as a primary liaison between international student agencies and Archbishop Williams.
- 11) Work with administration to actively find ways to better serve the international student population in conjunction with the mission of the school.
- 12) Any other duties as determined by the Principal or President as may arise fitting to the position.
