Substitute Teacher Thayer Academy's mission is to inspire a diverse community of students to moral, intellectual, aesthetic, and physical excellence so that each may rise to honorable achievement and contribute to the common good.

The teachers at Thayer Academy have a profound impact on the lives of their students. When a teacher is absent, whether planned or unplanned, we rely on a skilled substitute to fill in. We’re currently looking for engaging, reliable substitute teachers for classes at all levels, from 5th grade through 12th grade. In this role, the substitute will cover for an absent full-time teacher, adhering to the day’s lesson plan and ensuring that students have a fulfilling learning experience.

The ideal candidate will have substitute teaching experience and the ability to lead classrooms effectively.

CORE GOALS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB Maintain maximum availability to accept assignments

Execute lesson plans consistent with teacher guidelines and school curriculum

Create a lesson plan if none is available

Establish a safe and welcoming classroom environment and provide a positive predictive learning experience

Adhere to all school policies and procedures

Record attendance according to school procedure

Assign homework according to the lesson plan Collaborate with colleagues as needed

Share a written update with the absent teacher that includes student attendance, lesson-plan progress, conduct concerns, actions taken, and positive developments COLLABORATIONS & REPORTING STRUCTURE This position reports to the Upper School and Middle School Leadership. This is an as-needed position with typical availability/hours of 7:45 am to 3:45 pm, Monday through Friday, although some extended hours may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Bachelor’s degree

Experience teaching middle school and/or high school students

Commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive community

Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and the impact these practices have on classroom climate and curriculum

High levels of comfort and experience with a student information system and Google Suites Ability to communicate effectively with students and families

Flexible schedule with high levels of availability

Confidence and proficiency in giving instruction

Superb verbal and written communication skills COMPENSATION :$125.00 per day APPLICATION INFORMATION :
