Clean Harbors in Braintree, MA is seeking an Environmental Field Chemist (Clean Pack Chemist) to handle, segregate, pack, and inspect chemical waste in accordance with Federal, State and Local regulations and company policies. The role works both indoors and outdoors at plants, labs, customer sites, assisting with lab packs, household hazardous waste (HHW) collections and lab moves. This is a customer‑facing position, working at customer sites daily.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure that health and safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies and processes.
  • Prepare computer‑generated packing lists, labels, manifest and land disposal restriction notifications.
  • Inspect staging, accumulating and storage areas to maintain proper housekeeping and compliance.
  • Inspect storage area and drums for leaks, spills or labeling compliance.
  • Collect, segregate and package waste chemicals for disposal to maximise efficiency and compliance.
  • Execute jobs at Clean Harbors customer locations, including Fortune 500 companies.
  • Approve all projects before shipment in accordance with OSHA, EPA, DOT and company policies.
  • Conduct projects/jobs according to site‑specific regulations and health and safety plans.
  • Understand customer‑specific disposal restrictions and packaging requirements.
  • Sample and profile new waste streams or waste requiring analytical testing.
  • Ensure drum count is correct and drums are shippable per company policies.
  • Follow all local, state and federal compliance regulations.
  • Safely operate vehicles in compliance with DOT and other requirements.
  • Adhere to corporate operating guidelines and environmental health and safety operating guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Obtain a CDL Class B with hazmat and tanker endorsement within 6 months of employment.
  • Perform physical functions as required.
  • Successfully complete a background check, drug test and physical exam.
  • Meet OSHA respirator facial‑hair standards, if required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • College degree in Chemistry or Natural Science.
  • Previous experience in environmental services (remediation, abatement, emergency spill response etc.).

This role is entry‑level and offers a pathway to over 15 management positions within Clean Harbors and opportunities to advance in customer organisations such as environmental health and safety staff at universities, pharmaceutical manufacturers and other industries.

We accelerate training to equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge. Moving through the role typically takes 18 to 36 months, after which you may have the opportunity to move into a salary management position.

  • Waste Disposal – Comprehensive disposal of hazardous and non‑hazardous waste at company‑owned facilities.
  • Recycling Services – Extensive recycling, reuse and reclamation options for solvents, chemicals, oil and electrical equipment.
