Chief of Police – Town of Braintree, Massachusetts
The Town of Braintree seeks a Chief of Police to provide leadership and expertise in the administration of the Town’s police functions, including protecting life, safeguarding property, and enhancing the quality of life within the Town. The Braintree Police Department has 89 sworn personnel, 1 Animal Control Officer and 21 civilian employees, 10 of whom are public safety dispatchers, plus 27 special police officers.
The Chief of Police will build and maintain community trust, lead community policing initiatives, exercise strong investigative skills, and demonstrate fiscal responsibility and collective bargaining practices. The successful candidate will mentor and advance Department personnel through professional development, leading by example.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Developing, managing, and overseeing the Police Department’s budget
- Managing the Department’s facilities and equipment
- Establishing policies, procedures, and general orders within the Department
- Providing leadership in community policing and investigative functions
- Ensuring fiscal responsibility and collective bargaining compliance
Qualifications:
- Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in a law enforcement agency, five in an administrative or command position
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; master’s degree or advanced training in law enforcement management preferred
- Reputation for building and maintaining community trust and significant experience with community policing
- Strong investigative skills and proven track record of fiscal responsibility
- Commitment to mentoring and professional development of Department personnel
Position Details:
- Non-civil service position, appointed by the Mayor and subject to Town Council approval
- Base salary range: $ – $ (potential to increase to $205,789 – $246,714 with incentives)
