Business Manager (PT), St. William of York Parish, Tewksbury, MA
Position Overview – Saint William of York Parish is seeking a Business Manager who brings faith, organizational strength, and financial expertise to manage the day-to-day operations of the parish office. Hours are 9:00am- 2:00pm in the parish office in Tewksbury. This individual will assist the Pastor in stewarding the parish’s physical and financial resources while supporting the mission to serve a vibrant and multicultural Catholic community.
PrimaryFunction
The Parish Business Manager serves as an administrator in support of the Pastor’s responsibilities. This role is a steward of the parish’s financial, physical, and personnel resources.
Key Responsibilities- Financial Management
- Manage all bookkeeping functions, including accounts payable/receivable and parish revenues and expenses
- Prepare annual reports, budgets, and financial statements
- Serve as liaison with the Archdiocese on financial matters
- Manage banking relationships and reconcile monthly statements
- Oversee payroll, salaries, and employee benefits
- Personnel Management
- Assist the Pastor with employee evaluations
- Administer salary and benefits programs
- Supervise parish maintenance staff
- Support hiring and termination processes in collaboration with the Pastor
- Administrative Operations
- Oversee parish office operations and financial/operational records
- Coordinate insurance programs (liability, property, workers’ compensation)
- Maintain effective communication with parish community and external partners
- Attend staff, finance council, and archdiocesan meetings as needed
- Advise the Pastor on business and administrative matters
- Facilities Management
- Supervise construction, repairs, and property improvements
- Solicit bids, review proposals, and negotiate contracts
- Establish and monitor preventive maintenance programs
- Maintain property security (e.g., key control systems)
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field (preferred) or equivalent experience
- 3–5 years of supervisory or management experience required
- Strong understanding of and commitment to the mission of the Catholic Church
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters with discretion
- Experience in finance and accounting required
- Familiarity with Paylocity, Quick Books, or Intacct preferred
- Knowledge of HR, safety, and security practices preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Payroll administration experience preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong service-oriented mindset
- Ability to use a computer for extended periods (up to 8 hours/day)
- Ability to sit for extended periods (up to 8 hours/day)
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds

- College degree preferred
- Equivalent of 5–10 years of business experience may be considered
- Occasional evenings and weekends may be required for various meetings and/or events.
