Quality Control Manager – Channel Fish Processing

About the Role

As the Food Safety Quality Control Manager
, you will assist in overseeing all aspects of food safety and quality control operations, reporting to the Director of Quality Assurance Technical Services. You will lead a team of professionals to develop, implement, and maintain robust food safety and quality programs that meet and exceed regulatory standards. This role requires a strong background in food safety, quality management systems, and regulatory compliance, along with excellent leadership and communication skills.

While primarily a first shift position
, participation on Saturdays and swing/second shift may occasionally be required.

What you’ll do Facility Management
  • Perform and document facility audits in compliance with USDC/HACCP program requirements.
  • Maintain plant compliance with FDA regulations, including traceability, COO labeling, allergen control, and microbiological testing.
  • Enforce HACCP plans and oversee daily pre-production sanitation inspections.
  • Track and trend deviations, communicating findings to sanitation and production leadership.
  • Train and develop quality control technicians on HACCP, GMP, SSOP, and BRC AA+ standards.
  • Serve as QA liaison across departments to promote SOP adherence and continuous improvement.
  • Manage allergen, pest control, and recall programs.
  • Prepare for and participate in regulatory and third‑party audits.
  • Manage QC oversight of Shipping/Receiving for product safety and specification compliance.
  • Maintain product specifications, CAPA systems, and customer portal updates.
HACCP & Compliance
  • Support and enforce all HACCP plan requirements in compliance with USDC/FDA regulations.
  • Review HACCP records daily to verify proper monitoring, documentation, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure calibration and maintenance of critical monitoring equipment.
  • Oversee the allergen program, recall testing, and verification of critical control points.
Product Testing
  • Maintain accurate finished product specifications for lab and production.
  • Coordinate with USDC and outside laboratories for customer‑required testing.
  • Ensure microbiological testing and logging of results.
Personnel Leadership
  • Provide clear job expectations and training for all direct reports.
  • Conduct annual reviews and ensure ongoing compliance with GMPs and food handling procedures.
  • Actively monitor production to enforce SOPs/SSOPs, implement corrective actions, and follow up on issues.
Qualifications Required
  • 3–5 years of quality experience in a food manufacturing environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Proven ability to analyze and interpret data and ensure compliance with specifications
  • Certified SQF Practitioner
Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or related field
  • HACCP, Food Safety, and OSHA certifications
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
Compensation
  • Pay Range: $100,000 – $130,000 per year (This represents the annual salary range the company reasonably expects to pay for this position in Massachusetts.)
