The Norfolk Companies is seeking a Carpenter I to join our building materials and services team in Dorchester, MA. In this entry-level role, you'll support residential and light commercial projects for homeowners and contractors across New England. Responsibilities include assisting with framing, trim, and finish work; reading basic plans; measuring, cutting, and installing lumber and related materials; and operating hand and power tools safely.
You'll work closely with experienced carpenters in a collaborative, family-founded environment that values craftsmanship, reliability, and customer service. This position offers hands-on training, exposure to multiple Norfolk divisions, and opportunities to grow your skills and advance within a stable, long-standing local company committed to quality work and long-term relationships.
Responsibilities
- Perform residential and light commercial carpentry including framing, trim, and finish work under direction of senior carpenters
- Read and follow basic blueprints, measurements, and work orders to complete assigned tasks accurately
- Measure, cut, assemble, and install lumber, plywood, doors, windows, and related building materials
- Safely operate hand and power tools, maintain tools and work areas in clean, orderly condition
- Assist with loading, unloading, and staging building materials for jobs from Norfolk divisions
- Collaborate with team members, designers, and sales staff to ensure quality workmanship and customer satisfaction
- Follow company safety procedures, OSHA guidelines, and site rules at all times
- Document work completed and communicate progress or issues to supervisors promptly
- Support minor repair, remodeling, and installation projects for homeowners and contractors
- Participate in ongoing training to build carpentry skills and knowledge of Norfolk products
