Job Description & How to Apply Below
Hamilton Container Terminal (HCT) is a Canadian logistics company offering intermodal transport, transloading, container storage, and terminal services across Ontario. With facilities in Hamilton and Brampton, HCT serves as a critical link in the supply chain, connecting ports, railyards, and customers with reliable, end-to-end freight solutions.
About the Team
The Intermodal Operations Team moves import and export containers between CN/CP inland rail terminals and customer door locations. We run a growing fleet of company drivers and owner-operators with both dry and reefer capacity.
Key Responsibilities
Own the end-to-end performance of daily intermodal operations, ensuring containers move on time, reliably, and cost-effectively across ports, rail terminals, yards, and customer locations.
Direct the dispatch team, setting clear KPIs and holding the operation accountable to daily planning, routing, and execution targets.
Establish, standardize, and continuously improve SOPs across dispatch and customer service to drive consistency as the operation scales.
Drive utilization and productivity across the fleet—trucks, chassis, containers, and yard equipment—balancing capacity against demand to maximize return on assets.
Set a strong driver culture, holding company drivers and owner-operators accountable to safety, HOS, and compliance expectations while supporting retention.
Own the customer experience for the intermodal book, ensuring proactive communication and a high level of client satisfaction.
Serve as the senior point of escalation for operational issues, making decisive calls to resolve service disruptions and protect service commitments.
Define, track, and act on the KPIs that matter such as on-time delivery, asset utilization, per diem, and cost per move.
Diagnose bottlenecks and lead process improvement initiatives that raise performance and reduce cost.
Build, develop, and retain a high-performing operations team through coaching, mentorship, and clear accountability.
What We’re Looking For
3–5+ years of experience in intermodal operations, including team leadership, with a track record of leading teams or operational areas.
Strong understanding of Toronto-area rail terminal operations (CN Brampton, CPKC Vaughan).
Proven ability to manage drivers, owner-operators, and customer escalations under pressure.
Data-driven approach to managing performance and cost.
Excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
Ability to lead and prioritize in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Why Join HCT?
Part of a rapidly growing intermodal operation expanding across Canada and cross-border markets.
Exposure to multiple areas of the business, including drayage, linehaul, transloading, and terminal operations.
Opportunity to take on increasing responsibility and grow into broader operational and leadership roles.
Help build and scale a fully integrated, end-to-end logistics network.
Work in a fast-paced environment with real ownership over operations and decision-making.
Job Type and Compensation
Full‑time – $75,000.00–$ per year.
Benefits
Dental care
Extended health care
Flexible schedule
Mileage reimbursement
On-site parking
Paid time off
Work from home options (as applicable)
Location
