At Heartbeat Bikes, we are looking for a community-orientated Bike Shop Youth Worker to help lead a team of young people, as they grow in confidence, skill and hope.
About Heartbeat Bikes & Stepping Stones
Located in Brampton, and with a heart to bless the community, Heartbeat Bikes is a community Bike Shop specializing in affordable bike repairs and the refurbishment and sale of second‑hand bikes. Heartbeat Bikes is a ministry program of Youth Unlimited (YFC Toronto). At Youth Unlimited and Heartbeat Bikes, we desire to equip youth for success, see them build a sustainable livelihood and create a network of support and resources.
To do so, we hire youth ages 16‑25 with employment barriers, training them not only in the landscaping trade and in bike repair but also helping them to gain general employability and life skills. Through caring, mentoring relationships, youth will be encouraged to discover their gifts, identity, intrinsic value, and purpose.
The Heartbeat Bikes Community Bike Shop Youth Worker will help with shaping the bike shop into a community hub while providing spiritual and life mentoring for all participants. They will also help with the oversight of bike shop operations, including: leading and training employees and volunteers, customer service, tuning and maintaining bikes, promoting the bike shop, and building connections with local agencies.

Key Responsibilities
Offer spiritual and life mentoring to volunteers and participants
Provide leadership to and/or participate in community building events and activities
Provide leadership to youth employees and all volunteers
Provide excellent, personalized customer service
Oversee and participate in the repair, maintenance and refurbishment of bikes following Experience Plus standards
Share in the oversight of bike shop operations - ordering parts, managing inventory, accounting and reporting
Build connections with local agencies and churches
Recruitment of volunteers and participants
Key Requirements
A ministry heart and a desire to mentor young people and invest in the local community
Strong personal spiritual vitality and commitment to Jesus Christ
Be a faithful and contributing member of a local church
2-3 years of youth experience or other equivalent
Proficiency or interest in bike maintenance and repair
Position Information
This position has part-time and full-time options ranging from 17 to 40 hours/week. The expected salary range is $54,472 - $61,245 annually for a 40h/week role. The salary of this staff position is determined on a scale based on education and experience and is 100% funded on a missionary basis – requiring the successful applicant to fundraise and gather a personal support team.
