Electrical Test and Assembly Technician Job Description
This role focuses on performing routine and specialized electrical tests on transformers, power metering products, power distribution units, and other integrated systems, while supporting the mechanical and electrical assembly of products according to blueprints and schematics. You will contribute to continuous improvement by recommending enhancements to products and processes, and you will work within established quality and safety standards, including ISO 9001 procedures.
ResponsibilitiesPerform routine and special tests on transformers, power metering products, power distribution units, and other integrated systems to verify performance and safety.
Set up, operate, and monitor test equipment to conduct electrical testing, including high-voltage and power distribution testing, following established procedures.
Assist in the assembly of electrical and electro-mechanical products according to specifications, using blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
Interpret standard documentation and apply it to custom appliances and configurations, ensuring accurate wiring, connections, and component placement.
Assemble mechanical components, including fitting, aligning, and securing parts to ensure proper function and structural integrity.
Use hand and power tools safely and effectively during assembly, wiring, and testing activities.
Troubleshoot basic electrical issues during testing or assembly and support corrective actions to resolve faults or non-conformances.
Recommend improvements to products, processes, and work practices based on observations during testing and assembly.
Work safely at all times in accordance with Health and Safety procedures and guidelines, including safe handling of high-voltage equipment.
Follow and adhere to all ISO 9001 policies, procedures, and quality standards throughout testing and assembly activities.
Maintain organized and efficient testing bays, ensuring materials, tools, and equipment are properly stored and readily available.
Collaborate closely with team members in shared testing bays to complete testing and assembly tasks within required timelines.
Complete other related duties as assigned to support production, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Minimum of 3+ years of experience in a similar role involving electrical or electronics work, such as testing, assembly, or wiring.
Hands‑on experience working with electrical or electronic systems, components, or equipment.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
Experience with electrical testing, including high‑voltage electrical and high‑voltage power applications.
Practical experience with power distribution units or similar power systems.
Demonstrated ability in electrical assembly and wiring, including routing, terminating, and securing conductors.
Ability to perform basic electrical troubleshooting to identify and resolve issues during testing and assembly.
Comfort and competence using hand tools and power tools in an assembly and testing environment.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy when working with electrical connections, mechanical assemblies, and documentation.
Commitment to working safely and following Health and Safety procedures, especially when working with high‑voltage equipment.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and in close quarters with other technicians.
Skills & Qualifications
Licensed industrial electrician qualification is accepted and considered a strong asset.
Electrical, electronic, or electro‑mechanical diploma from a community college or equivalent is a strong asset.
