Audiologist

Educational Audiologist needed for the 2026–2027 school year. This position requires travel between school sites to provide audiology services to students, train staff, and conduct audiological evaluations and hearing screenings. The Audiologist provides support for all students throughout the district, particularly students who are deaf and hard of hearing and their families. Responsibilities include the administration of comprehensive hearing evaluations and providing interpretation of results, as well as recommendations. The Audiologist will select and program assistive listening technology as needed, and train/support students and district staff on its proper use and necessity.

This position reports directly to the Supervisor of Sensory Programs and Related Services.

Responsibilities:

  • Participates as a member of the multidisciplinary professional team, addressing audiological and communication access needs, services, and placement determination.
  • Performs comprehensive hearing evaluations of children who reside in the county from birth through graduation, including those who fail the screening process, those with known hearing loss, and those who are referred.
  • Communicates the hearing status of children to appropriate individuals, including parents, school personnel, physicians, professional colleagues, and others, as appropriate, as well as suggests appropriate referrals to physicians, specialists, and other service providers.
  • Provides appropriate counseling for children and parents regarding educational, medical, social, and psychological implications of hearing loss.
  • Recommends, fits, maintains, and troubleshoots assistive listening technology.
  • Collects and reviews audio logic evaluations for children tested in other facilities. Forwards reports to appropriate deaf/hard of hearing staff, if a newly identified hearing loss meets state regulations.
  • Educates students, teachers of the deaf/hard of hearing, and other school personnel regarding assistive technology performance and expectations.
  • Provides trainings to perform listening checks and basic troubleshooting to maintain proper functioning of hearing assistance technology to students and appropriate district staff.
  • Assesses classroom acoustics and makes recommendations to improve classroom listening environments.
  • Provides support and training for district Hearing Technicians on proper procedures and practices of the school hearing program.
  • Takes initiative to develop initial and ongoing positive relationships with children, parents, school personnel, professional colleagues, and community.
  • Advocates for children with hearing impairments and develops a positive working relationships with all children and families served.
  • Maintains confidentiality of student information.
  • Maintains detailed and accurate recordkeeping.
  • Complies with state/federal rules and regulations and district policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a current knowledge of audiology practices and related areas of special education.
  • Maintains a current and active Florida state license in Audiology.
  • Is responsible for the maintenance and calibration of audiometric equipment.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
