Position Concept

The Security Officer is an armed position responsible for safeguarding critical energy infrastructure and facilities. Duties include conducting static and roving patrols, monitoring for breaches, and responding to incidents to ensure the physical protection of assets, team members, and sensitive operations at power plants, substations, and transmission hubs.

Responsibilities
  • Patrol and Surveillance: Conduct scheduled and unscheduled roving patrols of facility perimeter, access points, and interior zones; monitor surveillance systems (CCTV, motion detectors, etc.) and report suspicious activity; inspect fences, gates, lighting, and other security measures for tampering or damage; ensure all restricted areas are secure.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Maintain detailed logs of patrols, incidents, and observations; complete incident reports, daily activity reports, and shift handover documentation; report safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, and security breaches promptly.
  • Access Control: Verify credentials of personnel, contractors, and visitors; enforce site‑specific access control procedures; maintain visitor logs; prevent unauthorized access to sensitive areas.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to alarms, emergencies, and incidents per established protocols; provide armed response to potential threats, including intrusions, sabotage, or hostile individuals; coordinate with local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency services as needed.
Licenses / Certifications

Required: Valid Class “G” license (Security Guard license) under Florida State Statutes 493 and 790; demonstrate 90% or greater proficiency with assigned weapons system or achieve proficiency within 30 days of appointment; firearms training and demonstrated proficiency.

Preferred: CPR/First Aid/AED certification; FEMA IC‑S/NIMS training.

Education

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience

Required: 4 years of experience in law enforcement, military, or the security industry.

Preferred: Experience in critical infrastructure protection or energy sector security.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Required: Strong situational awareness and attention to detail; ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; familiarity with security technology (CCTV, access control systems, radios).

Working Conditions

Outdoor and indoor patrols in varying weather conditions; shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays; standing, walking, and driving for extended periods; exposure to high‑risk environments requiring vigilance and readiness.

Physical Demands & Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods (8–12 hours per shift); operate patrol vehicles; climb stairs, ladders, and navigate uneven terrain; lift, carry, or move equipment up to 50 pounds; run or respond quickly during emergency situations; possible exposure to violent individuals, injuries, or environmental hazards.

Storm Duty Requirements

Participation in response and recovery activities related to emergencies and disasters is a condition of employment. Team members are required to work normal duties or other assigned activities during storms. Proper compensation will be provided in accordance with company rules and procedures.
