Job PurposeIn keeping a tradition of excellence, the purpose of the Maintenance Helper is to ensure that all new and renovated educational facilities are constructed in a manner consistent with the highest standards of efficiency, safety, economy, and quality. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Assist in planning for construction by participating in preconstruction planning conferences
- Coordinate required inspections and related engineering programs with public agencies
- Supervise inspection of construction and assist in the selection and appointment of job inspectors for each construction project
- Visit all construction projects at frequent intervals to assure that plans, specifications, code and regulations are being observed and followed
- Supervise a quality control program for materials used in new construction
- Review and approve payment of bills submitted by building contractors, testing laboratories, consulting engineers and surveying firms
- Receive and maintain insurance policies secured by contractors, and verify appropriate coverage for public liability, property damage, fire and workers’ compensation
- Investigate reports of faulty work or materials in construction, and take appropriate action under the terms of the guarantee
- Work with governmental agencies having jurisdiction over or providing services to school buildings
- Maintain and update all records, drawings, and descriptive materials of school facilities
- Make recommendations on time extension requests and assessment of liquidated damages
- Review color schemes submitted by contract architects
- Investigate problems involving property adjoining school construction project sites
- Investigate street utility improvements adjoining school property
- Maintain necessary records and prepare periodic
- Establish a schedule of owner activities for design and construction
- Lead and attend staff meetings/trainings as applicable; serve on staff committees
- Assume responsibility for own professional growth and development, for keeping current with literature, new research findings, for attending appropriate professional meetings and conferences, and to maintain any credits and/or continued education for maintenance of licensure/qualifications required for the position
- Maintain and accept responsibility for any district owned fixed asset item assigned to employee and ensure appropriate use by following district policies for acceptable use
- Undergo periodic evaluations according to state and board policy procedures
- Maintain confidentiality
- Regular, dependable attendance is an essential function of this position
- Perform such other and not specifically enumerated duties as may be requested by the Board of Education, superintendent, administrator, director or established by district policy
- Read, understand, and abide by Employee Conduct Policy, GAB, all other district, state and federal policies, and procedures and protocols as established by RCSD and the Mississippi Educator Code of Conduct
- Education Level: High school diploma or GED. Trade school preferred.
