Job PurposeIn keeping a tradition of excellence, the purpose of the Teacher Special Education is to help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women. The role involves developing and implementing the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) through direct instruction and coordination of activities with teachers at the local school.
The position requires an individual to perform the essential duties satisfactorily and may accommodate reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities.
- Plan, develop, and implement the students’ IEP.
- Assist in implementing related services specified in the IEP.
- Meet and instruct assigned classes as directed by the Principal.
- Plan a program of study that meets individual needs, interests, and abilities.
- Create a conducive learning environment suitable to students’ maturity and interests.
- Prepare for classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon request.
- Encourage students to maintain high standards of classroom behavior.
- Guide learning toward curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
- Employ varied instructional techniques and media appropriate to the location and learners.
- Implement district philosophy, goals, and initiatives relevant to the student’s age and placement.
- Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports per district and state policy.
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate records required by law, district policy, and regulations.
- Assist administration in implementing policies governing student life and conduct.
- Provide availability for students and parents for education‑related purposes outside instructional hours when required.
- Plan and supervise assignments for teacher assistants as needed.
- Lead and attend staff meetings, trainings, and serve on committees.
- Assume responsibility for professional growth, current literature, research, and required continuing education.
- Accept responsibility for district‑owned fixed assets and ensure appropriate use.
- Undergo periodic evaluations per state and board policy.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Ensure reliable, in‑person attendance.
- Execute additional duties as requested by the Board of Education, superintendent, or district policy.
- Read, understand, and abide by employee conduct policy, governing documents, and the Mississippi Educator Code of Conduct.
- Education Level: Bachelor’s degree in Education.
- Certification:
Hold an appropriate Mississippi Teaching Credential or a valid emergency certification issued by the Mississippi State Board of Education. - Other Requirements: [Additional qualifications may be listed here.]
- Regularly required to talk or hear.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use fine motor skills, and handle equipment such as keyboards and video displays.
- Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, reach, crouch, or crawl.
- Must regularly lift and move up to 35 pounds; occasionally up to 75 pounds.
- Close vision and other specific vision abilities may be required.
- Work occurs on an active school campus both inside and outside facilities.
- Noise level is usually low to moderate, occasionally high.
- Environment is not a standard office setting.
