Special Education Transportation Coordinator
Reports To:
Special Education Transportation Coordinator
Receives Guidance From:
Director and/or Assistant Director of Transportation, Director of Career and Technical Education, Principal, or Assistant Principal
Overtime Status:
Compliant with position, salary and FLSA regulations
To provide safe, courteous, and comfortable transportation for students on a daily bus route, assist children with boarding and exiting, maintain student discipline, enforce safety regulations, and perform required safety drills and emergency responses.
Duties and Responsibilities- Obey all traffic laws and mandatory safety regulations for school buses
- Maintain student discipline on the bus and report disciplinary problems
- Keep the assigned bus clean and maintain the schedule
- Check the bus for mechanical defects before each operation and notify authority of failures or delays
- Discharge students only at authorized stops and transport only authorized students
- Exercise responsible leadership on out-of-district school trips
- Report all accidents and complete required reports
- Enforce regulations against smoking and eating on the bus
- Lead and attend staff meetings/trainings as applicable and serve on staff committees
- Maintain and accept responsibility for any district-owned fixed asset assigned to the employee and ensure appropriate use in accordance with district policies
- Undergo periodic evaluations per state and board policy procedures
- Maintain confidentiality
- Ensure regular, dependable, in-person, and punctual attendance
- Perform any other duties reasonably requested by the Board of Education, superintendent, administrator, director or as established by district policy
- Read, understand, and abide by the Employee Conduct Policy, GAB, and all other District, State and Federal policies, procedures, and protocols established by RCSD and the Mississippi Educator Code of Conduct

Pass background check and drug/alcohol test
The role requires standing, walking, sitting, using hands for fine manipulation, handling equipment, and occasionally stooping, kneeling, and reaching. The employee must speak and hear regularly and meets all health requirements set for school bus drivers.
Work EnvironmentThe work environment is active school campus, both indoors and outdoors. Noise level is usually low to moderate and occasionally high.
Terms of Employment- Salary, days, and work year as established by the Rankin County Board of Education
Performance will be evaluated per Rankin County School Board policy on Evaluation of Employees.
