Monitor Minibus
In keeping a tradition of excellence, the purpose of the Monitor Minibus is to assist the minibus driver when requested or required. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Duties and responsibilities include: assisting students requiring help to load or unload the bus, actively assisting the driver when backing the bus, constantly monitoring students' well-being and behavior during the route, responding appropriately to students' needs during the route and notifying the driver if an emergency exit, being familiar with the route in order to assist a substitute or new driver, assisting the driver in keeping the bus clean, safely securing all wheelchair students, storing and securing all student equipment that is to be transported with restricts, tie downs, sitting where needed on the bus but not behind the driver unless the bus is empty, completing a walk-through for the purpose of ensuring the safe transportation of all students, assisting with conducting emergency evacuation drills for the purpose of ensuring efficiency of procedures and complying with mandated requirements, performing other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of safely transporting students, making sure students do not undo their seat belts and leave their seats while the bus is moving, preventing students from fighting, being verbally abusive, self-abusive or behaving in ways that could create disorder on the bus and threaten the safety of other students, reporting observations and/or incidents to the transportation supervisor, leading and attending staff meetings/trainings as applicable;
serving on staff committees, maintaining and accepting responsibility for any district owned fixed asset item assigned to employee and ensuring appropriate use by following district policies for acceptable use, undergoing periodic evaluations according to state and board policy procedures, maintaining confidentiality, performing such other and not specifically enumerated duties as may be requested by the board of education, superintendent, administrator, director or established by district policy, reading, understanding, and abiding by employee conduct policy, GAB, all other district, state and federal policies, and procedures and protocols as established by RCSD and the Mississippi Educator Code of Conduct.
Qualifications include: education level of high school diploma or GED, certification of CDL required within 6 months of hire date, physical demands of regularly talking or hearing, frequently standing, walking, sitting, using hands for fine manipulation, handling or feeling and reaching with hands and arms using equipment such as a keyboard and video display terminal, occasionally stooping, kneeling, reaching, crouching or crawling, lifting and moving up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds, specific vision abilities including close vision, work environment encompassing the entire active school campus both inside and outside the facilities, noise level usually low to moderate and occasionally high.
