General Education Para educator - Kindergarten
Position Overview:
The General Education Para educator supports classroom instruction and school operations by assisting certified staff in maintaining a structured, safe, and inclusive learning environment. Under the direction of the classroom teacher, the Para educator works with individual students and small groups to reinforce academic skills, support student engagement, and assist with daily classroom and school activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instructional Support
- Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of content and skills introduced by the teacher.
- Assist the teacher in supporting student learning based on individual needs, interests, and abilities.
- Administer, score, and record assignments, homework, and assessments as directed.
- Guide independent, enrichment, and remedial activities prepared by the teacher.
- Student Supervision and Support
- Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, arrivals/dismissals, lunch/recess, field trips, and school events.
- Assist students with daily routines including lunch, snack, and classroom transitions.
- Support a positive and productive learning environment for all students.
- Alert the teacher to any concerns regarding student behavior, safety, or academic progress.
- Classroom and School Support
- Assist with classroom setup, organization, and preparation of instructional materials.
- Support general classroom routines and daily operations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe learning environment.
- Communication and Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with various teachers and school staff in a variety of settings to support instructional goals.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and school information.
- Follow direction from supervising staff and contribute to a positive team environment.
- Professional Responsibilities
- Adhere to Board of Education policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Participate in professional development and school activities as assigned.
- Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and effective interpersonal skills.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
Associate degree, OR at least 60 college credits, OR High school diploma with successful completion of the Para Pathways (formerly Para Pro) Assessment required. Experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to support instructional activities under teacher direction. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Ability to manage time effectively and respond to multiple demands. Ability to work collaboratively in a classroom and school environment. Ability to adapt to changing situations and student needs. Ability to learn Microsoft Office and Google applications and district-specific software applications.

Physical and Cognitive Demands:
Work in this classification requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and assisting students throughout the school day. The employee must be able to lift and move light materials and assist students as needed. Duties require attention to detail, communication, and the ability to respond to dynamic classroom situations. Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing correctable to within normal limits.
Adaptive technology may be utilized as appropriate. The work environment includes classroom and school settings with occasional exposure to outdoor conditions. The noise level is typically moderate.
