Position: Camp Activity Specialist -Nature- (Soundview)

The Camp Activity Specialist (Nature) plays a vital role in creating a safe, fun, and inclusive camp environment for children. These seasonal positions lead specialized activities both indoors and outdoors across a variety of disciplines, including Arts & Crafts (STEAM), Archery, Sports & Recreation, Music, Nature and Fishing. The CMPACT engages campers in hands‑on learning, skill‑building, and creative exploration while supporting the YMCA’s mission to strengthen communities and foster personal growth.

  • The Nature Specialist
    , plans and leads engaging, hands‑on nature‑based activities that promote environmental awareness, outdoor exploration, and appreciation for the natural world.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, lead, and facilitate engaging, age‑appropriate activities in assigned specialty areas.
  • Ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all campers.
  • Foster creativity, teamwork, and positive interactions among campers and staff.
  • Follow YMCA policies, procedures, and safety guidelines for all activities, including outdoor programs.
  • Collaborate with fellow counselors and camp leadership to enhance the overall camp experience.
  • Communicate effectively with campers, families, and camp staff regarding activity goals, schedules, and camper progress.
Qualifications:
  • Experience working with children or leading activities in a camp, educational, or recreational setting.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to plan and facilitate safe, engaging indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Positive role model with adaptability, creativity, and a strong commitment to youth development.
  • Must be safety-conscious and able to respond quickly in emergencies.
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certifications or willingness to obtain before camp.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods and lift up to 25–50 lbs as needed.
  • Completion of all required trainings prior to the start of camp.
