Overview
Perform direct patient care including assessment, evaluation, basic and advanced life support according to the goals of Mercy Health System and the philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy standard of care and employee code of conduct. Field Supervisors also perform clerical, maintenance duties and act as preceptors of EMT and Paramedic students. Field Supervisors supervise EMTs and Paramedics in daily routine and pre‑hospital care settings, make operational decisions in the absence of Manager‑Regional EMS or Supervisor‑Operations, and instruct EMT and Paramedic on in‑service training, education, and driving.
The incumbent shall carry out responsibilities and integrate the Mercy philosophy of caring for the sick and suffering, respect for human life, and the dignity of each person, applying Christian values.
Paramedic (EMT‑P license for the state of practice) and valid driver’s license.
ExperienceApplicants must be at least 21 years of age.
Certifications/RegistrationHazmat awareness/level training, ACLS at hire, PALS within 6 months of hire/transfer.
Other RequirementsMay be required to work differing shifts and schedules. Unimpaired mobility. Must be able to respond quickly to ambulance, access patients in difficult terrain, climb stairs, work in close and dangerous environments, carry equipment and patients with a partner, perform strenuous physical requirements (CPR, lifting equipment, etc.). Must have correctable vision acceptable for day and night operation, color acuity adequate, read medication dosages, hear and understand information from patients/families, differentiate conversations in active, distracting environments, understand radio traffic, speak clearly in loud conditions and stressful situations, verbal communicate with patients, families and other personnel.
Incumbent will be required to satisfy the physical demands of the role, including a pre‑hire and annual fitness for duty test.
Mobile and portable communications equipment, monitor/defibrillator/pacer, approved stretcher, stair chair, backboard, scoop‑type device, variety of bags and kits, assigned ambulance, computer, fax, printer and other office related equipment.
Preferred EducationAssociate’s Degree or equivalent experience.
Preferred LicensureTLS Provider.
Preferred ExperienceEmergency Services or related Leadership experience, 3 years Paramedic experience, teaching experience.
Preferred Certifications/RegistrationNIMS 300 and 400.
