Job Description Overview

Step Down Unit SDU / PCU (also called the pendulum floor) supports patients who do not require cardiac catheterization (CCU) but are not yet ready for general medical–surgical (med‑surg) care. The unit maintains patient‑to‑nurse ratios of 3–5:1 and operates in three acuity tiers:

  • Gray patients: more acutely ill patients requiring interventions such as bilevel positive airway pressure (BiPAP) initiation, cardiac monitoring, and insulin infusion; these cases may evolve to need higher levels of care.
  • White patients: stroke, cardiac, respiratory, and telemetry patients.
  • Patients with alcohol or drug withdrawal are frequent, with rapid changes in clinical condition.

  • Up to $10,000 Sign‑On Bonus

Job Summary

Assess patient health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records. Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled patients. May advise patients on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management.

Education: Required:
Graduate of an accredited nursing program or NLN approved program Preferred:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

Experience: Preferred:
Previous nursing experience

Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills Demonstrate effective leadership abilities Exhibits valuable time management skills Strong critical thinking/problem solving skills Flexibility and ability to work in a multi‑tasking environment.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Required: RN license active in the state of Missouri
