The Emergency Department nurse provides professional nursing care during the initial phase of acute illness or trauma for patients of all ages. The ED nurse triages and determines priority of care based on physical, psychological and social needs as well as factors influencing patient flow through the emergency care system. The ED nurse works quickly to assess the needs of each patient, prioritize care based on critical nature, stabilizes the patient, initiates treatment, discharges the patient after the emergency is over or makes arrangements for a longer hospital stay.
EducationRequirements
- Required:
Graduate of an accredited nursing program or NLN approved program - Preferred:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- Preferred:
Previous nursing experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrates effective leadership abilities
- Exhibits valuable time management skills
- Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Flexibility and ability to work in a multi-tasking environment
- RN license active in Missouri
- BLS within 90 days of hire
- ACLS within 12 months of hire
- PALS within 12 months of hire
- ENPC within 12 months of hire (primary RN for emergent pediatric care, must be maintained)
- TNCC within 12 months of hire (primary RN in trauma care, must be maintained)
- NRP within 12 months of hire, renew every 2 years
