General DescriptionThe Kitchen Manager is responsible for creating a spirit of hospitality in the Back‑of‑the‑House by establishing a warm, positive environment, selecting friendly and talented co‑workers, and leading the human and financial resources in the restaurant to achieve a profitable operation. The role also ensures that our guests become long‑term loyal customers. As a member of the restaurant operations management team, the Kitchen Manager is responsible for overall operations, including food quality, production, safety, and labor, in the absence of the General Manager.
The Kitchen Manager also operates the Front‑of‑House and Back‑of‑the‑House using Golden Corral products, recipes, procedures, and company systems to meet quality, recipe, and cleanliness standards.
- Recruits, interviews, and hires talented co‑workers for all restaurant positions using the approved selection and interview process.
- Trains and coaches Fast Tracks Coordinators, Hourly Assistant Managers, Crew Leaders, Crew Trainers, and A‑Team on changes to operating standards.
- Ensures all co‑workers complete the Computer‑Based Training (CBT) program and are certified through Fast Tracks and Safe Tracks, and that uniforms meet Golden Corral guidelines.
- Cross‑trains co‑workers in positions other than their primary position through Fast Tracks certification.
- Performs performance appraisals and disciplinary counseling sessions with back‑of‑the‑house and production co‑workers.
- Conducts daily pre‑shift meetings with restaurant staff.
- Operates a motor vehicle to support the restaurant’s operations or attend meetings.
Two to three years’ management experience in a high‑volume restaurant with diversified menu offerings; a degree in business or hospitality is preferred. Successful completion of Golden Corral’s comprehensive management training program within six months of assignment is required. A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record are mandatory.
Other RequirementsApproximately 55–65 hours per week; standing and walking for 2–5 hours without a rest break; task sequencing and complex administrative responsibilities. Frequent heavy lifting (over 25 lb), bending, and reaching overhead may be required. The work environment includes heavy customer contact, cooking equipment, and slippery surfaces. Position is under minimum levels of day‑to‑day supervision. Some travel, including operating a motor vehicle and/or air travel, may be required.
